Initiative 71, which was passed by District voters in November 2014, legalized the possession and cultivation of marijuana for recreational use in Washington D.C. The initiative also allows people 21 and older to gift less than an ounce of cannabis to other individuals 21 years of age or older.
The law also permits people 21 years old or older to grow up to six plants at their home address (up from three plants under previous laws). Finally, Initiative 71 allows for the possession of up to two ounces of marijuana on your person at any given time (up from one ounce under previous laws).
